OTHER tips for travel
Bath and beauty
There’s no way we would have survived Asia without this 3M Insect Repellent. A little lotion went a long way and we could tell a major difference when we’d forget to apply it. It comes in travel friendly sizes and one small tube will last two people an entire week. It does a great job at keeping your body bug bite free!
Most local Dollar Stores carry $1, travel size sunscreen lotions. It’s the cheapest you’ll find it anywhere, especially if you travel somewhere outside of the US. In Ecuador, for example, a $1 travel sunscreen costs approximately $5 or more.
ECO-FRIENDLY TRAVEL
Lush has some amazing options for shampoo and conditioning bars so you can skip the plastic bottles next time you travel and not have to worry about the liquid maximums at the airports!
Looking for a greener toothpaste? Try these toothpaste tabs by Bite.
It’s always smart to use a straw when drinking out of anything in foreign countries, so we like to travel with these rubber straws by Kitchen Up. It comes with a travel pouch and straw cleaners making them easy to transport and use.
Apps
Having the country you are visiting’s version of Uber or Lyft prior to traveling is helpful. For example, in Thailand, we used Grab which was safe and reliable and we used it almost every day.
Google Translate isn’t perfect, but it’s close enough and so helpful when traveling somewhere where you don’t speak or understand the native language. We do, however, highly recommend learning some basic words and phrases before you travel. Not only is it respectful, but it saves you time on simple things you may end up needing to ask for (such as water, the bathroom, etc.).
WhatsApp is great if your cellular provider or plan doesn’t offer long-distance coverage. It allows users can text, send pictures and videos, and video chat within the app. Users can also share their location, making this app super helpful for group travelers.
Since we’re an Apple household, we always make sure we are aware of our current Apple login credentials in case one of us loses our phone (it’s happened to us while on trips before). You simply login to track where your phone is and can get directions to the location of your phone. You never know where you’ll end up, so don’t go looking for your lost phone alone!
