Chicago

We both agreed 100% that the Chicago dogs are the best food in Chicago. Pippin’s Tavern is a great place to go grab a beer and enjoy a dog from next door (Downtown Dogs). We thought we’d fall in love with the pizza, but the heart wants what the heart wants and we thought the deep dish was overrated.

thailand

Jasmine: Khao Soi is sort of the unofficial dish of Chiang Mai. We were able to find it at Wallee Bar, which serves it for breakfast as we discovered because we wanted to make sure we tried it before our flight out of Chiang Mai. It’s a soup but not like any other Thai soup you’ve had before. I highly recommend it.

Christopher: I’m a sucker for rice and desserts, so when you put both of them together, I’m in heaven. Thailand is famous for mango sticky rice and my favorite was all the variations at The Mango Garden in Ko Phi Phi.

Ecuador

Jasmine: My all-time favorite Ecuadorian dish is ceviche. If you’ve never had it before, it’s like a chilled shrimp or seafood cocktail with lots of lime juice. It’s served typically with thin fried plantains. I’ve had many versions of ceviche but Ecuadorian ceviche is hands-down the best!

Christopher: To me, ceviche is a clear winner, but since Jasmine already chose ceviche, I’m going with the second best. The bolon de verde with a fried egg is the only breakfast that beats an American breakfast. Imagine a fried green banana ball with the egg yolk accompanying it. It’s delicious.

MAINE

Jasmine: Maine surprisingly had a lot more to offer than just seafood but I do have to say that my favorite meal there was the lobster roll, Connecticut style (just butter), at A Bite of Maine’s food truck at the Portland Headlight.

Christopher: I don’t love seafood like Jasmine does but the seafood in Maine was pretty fresh and I actually tried a lot of it. If I had to pick one favorite meal, I’d say the burrito, nachos, and churros at Taco Escobarr in Portland were the best! Their mango poblano margarita was also really good.
